As we wind down and recover from the marathon that is Movement, we find ourselves reflecting on what this festival means to the Detroit community. Despite drawing in people from around the globe, Movement has a unique way of knitting the local community even closer together. Our interviews with attendees and local businesses revealed that this event is eagerly anticipated each year for its creative spirit, its ability to foster community, and the unforgettable experience of walking into Hart Plaza. Techno fashion has always been synonymous with freedom and individuality. At Movement, we saw a plethora of looks that celebrated these values. From futuristic metallics and edgy streetwear to vibrant colors and intricate DIY creations, festival-goers embraced the opportunity to express their unique identities. Raya Sacco, a local designer of Haus of Raya, perfectly captures this sentiment: “Movement has been such a big part of my life since high school. Seeing it growing every year makes me and the whole Detroit community want to be a part of it. I feel like fashion and music always go hand in hand, so it's only natural that everyone wants a unique, edgy fit for the festival—so I always try to push my upcycled T-Skirts for this type of event!”

We talked to local retailer Well Done Goods at the festival, and they've been using the festival as an opportunity to sell their techno apparel before and during the event for the last eight years. This long-standing presence highlights how Movement brings together people who are passionate about style and fosters a sense of unity and excitement in the process.
