An Evening of Fashion + Accessories with Drinks x Design

Nabeela Najjar

On Thursday, April 6, 2023, Executive Director of the Detroit Fashion Community, Lauren Mari attended the Drinks x Design Fashion & Accessories event, presented by Design Core Detroit in partnership with Life Remodeled. The event took place in the Durfee Innovation Society, a repurposed school building that provides opportunities for creatives of all ages.

It is home to some of the most impactful nonprofit organizations and for-profit companies. They focus on resource sharing and the impact of the collective as a whole. Residents partner with community leaders and students to focus on educational outcomes, workforce gaps, entrepreneurism and human services.

Guests were able to tour the building and learn about the programs that the Durfee Innovation Society has to offer. DJ Pretty Wrcklés set the vibe for the evening with amazing sounds. The food was provided by Pink Flamingo. There were pop-up displays featuring Detroit designers. The list of designers included:

Creativity was at an all time high. The craftmanship, the fit and finish of the designs were impeccable. Onlookers watched Godnii’s custom eyeglass process in a live demonstration. Christine Bossler’s collection consisted of handmade jewelry constructed from recycled metal and ethically sourced gems. Eumelanin introduced The Hex Bag, crafted in leather with quality hardware.

Then CCS x Carhartt program challenged students to create design opportunities with discarded Carhartt clothing in an effort to produce zero-waste designs, contributing to the goal of sustainability in fashion.

It was a very impressive, innovative and inspirational event. Detroit Fashion Community is excited to attend the next one and supports what Design Core and Life Remodeled is doing for the COMMUNITY. #DETROITFASHIONCOMMUNITY
