The Detroit Fashion Community presented the first DFC Fashion Forward Scholarships at the Annual Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) Graduates Hall of Fame Gala.

The annual Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) Graduates Hall of Fame alumni weekend kicked off on Thursday, May 18 in grand fashion with the return of “An Evening of Fine Arts,” at the historic Fox Theatre. From music to dance to visual arts, more than 200 DPSCD middle and high school fine and performing arts student artists wowed an audience of their families, friends, supporters, DPSCD alumni, leaders, and local media with their immense talents.

On Friday May 19, alumni visited their high schools to reminisce about their time at DPSCD, culminating with an all alumni "Meet & Greet" Reception at the Motown Museum.

On Saturday May 20, the weekend’s signature event– the annual Tyrone E. Winfrey, Sr. Alumni Hall of Fame “Come Home” Gala brought DPS Alumni stars like Chante Adams, Nico Anaan, and Angela Lewis home to celebrate the Legacy of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. Co-hosted by  WXYZ Detroit Channel 7 News Anchor and event Co-Chair, Carolyn Clifford, and Former Fox 2 Anchor Huel Perkins, the gala was held in recognition, salutation, and celebration of DPS/DPSCD Alumni who continuously build the DPS/DPSCD Hall of Fame.

The Detroit Fashion Community’s Executive Director Lauren Mari, and Director of Events Kevin Maples, hosted the gala’s red carpet and later, other members of the board joined them to present two DPS/DPSCD students– Mikel Underwood and Janiah Jones– with the first $1,000 DFC Fashion Forward Scholarships!!!
